IDPA/Practical Pistol

The ultimate purpose is to increase handling, safety and accuracy skills, which it does very well. Scenarios are designed from shooting drills or actual situations that have occurred where life and health are defended by the use of a handgun. Staged with good fellowship and friendly competition, practical pistol becomes a fun sport with dual purposes. It is a game that could someday save your life or the lives of family members and/or friends.

Matches are the 2nd Saturday of each month; please refer to the MSA Calendar for match times and dates.

Bullseye Pistol

Bullseye Pistol is a great game and one of the most challenging handgun sports.

Also, no matter what your other interests in pistol shooting may be, Bullseye practice and matches will improve your skills. Mastering the basics of Bullseye Pistol will make you better at action pistol, silhouette pistol, etc.

Bullseye Pistol is the same type of competition used for NRA’s National Pistol Championship Matches at Camp Perry Ohio since the 1920’s. No one has ever shot a perfect score in the regulation 270 shot match. The open record still stands from 1976 (shot with iron sights, although optics and dots have been allowed in more recent years.)

Bullseye matches are shot standing, one hand only, no support of any type. Three guns are used: .22 caliber, center-fire at least .32 caliber, and .45 caliber. Most competitors use the .45 for the center-fire stage, eliminating the need for a third pistol. You do not have to shoot the whole match. Many new competitors start with just the .22, or just the .45 if that’s the pistol they’re familiar with.

Shooters compete within NRA classifications, so everyone has a chance at class wins. MSA competitors include the full spectrum from beginners to High Masters. In fact, one of the current MSA range record holders is Darius Young, a legendary Bullseye and International shooter, distinguished alumnus of the United States Shooting Team, and a two-time Olympian (Seoul 1988 and Barcelona 1992).

We hold monthly matches from March through October. Also, we have organized practice sessions in between matches. New competitors and new shooters are always welcome; plenty of advice and introductory individual coaching is always available from experienced competitors.

All junior shooters shoot for free in this event. Hat pins are awarded to the winners in their respective classes.

There is also an optional 200 Meter Steel Challenge Shoot. Any caliber is legal as long as it is fired from a pistol with iron sights or a pistol scope.

3 Gun

3 Gun is an action sport involving rifle, pistol and shotgun, shooting a variety of different types of targets in tactical scenario-based event. We generally shoot four scenarios in a match, which takes about 3 hours. We break up into four squads each under the direction of a range safety officer or squad leader. The squad rotates through the scenarios until all four are completed by each shooter. Scoring is based on time and how well you hit the targets.

This is a great place to improve your shooting skill and improve safety and handling as well. It’s great fun with good folks to shoot with. It is our policy that a person who has never competed in these type events come and be a part as a scorer for one match to get the rules understood before actual shooting. This seems to work better than coming in cold turkey and being overwhelmed with rules and dealing with three different guns.

Matches are 3rd Saturday each month starting at 9am. Safety meeting and walk through at 8:45am. All times are one hour earlier for summer months. Check the MSA calendar for any changes in time or dates.

Equipment needed:

  • AR 15, Mini 14, AK47 type rifles preferred.
  • Any shotgun; semi auto or pump preferred.
  • Any handgun; semi auto preferred.

The type and type of sight determined what class you are in. Match fee is $10.
